Is it normal for hair to fall out then regrow?

If a male hair fell out doc said probably just premature hair loss but it's growing back?

I have really thick hair and shed a lot. It’s thinned out over the years slightly but it’s still on my head at least. Were you going through a stressful life event when you were losing your hair and it’s gotten better? Stress could definitely a factor in hair loss.

    • It started falling out two years ago slowly and it was thinner and thinner and my doc said it's premature balding but now it's growing back after two years of it being thinner and I used to have bald spots in different areas but they're gone also where my hair meets my forehead it was receding and now it's not

2 years ago, I had incredibly long hair. (Down to my lower back.) It started to fallout midway through the year and I thought I was going to lose my hair incredibly early. I ended up shaving it off.

It ended up being the shampoo brand I was using. It was during that period of time where Pantene was having a lawsuit related to causing hairloss. My hair is fine now. Try switching shampoo/conditioner brands.

Yep. I suppose I should have clarified that in my comment. There's always the chance it IS hair loss, but try switching your hair products to be sure.

I've noticed that every few years or so, I go through a pretty intense shedding phase (when this is going on, I feel like I can't even escape all of the loose hair everywhere it is so bad, though it does not come out in huge clumps and my hair doesn't seem noticeably thinner), then will start noticing a ton of new baby hairs coming in. I think it is just the natural cycle of the hair, and sometimes people shed more hair than usual. I went through one of these phases about 5 years ago and am in the baby hair regrowth phase of another right now.

I also agree with PurpleHoneycomb that it could be the shampoo you are using. I've heard that shampoos with certain ingredients (I forget what they are exactly; some long and complicated names) can contribute to hair loss. Monat is a shampoo I've heard contributes to it as well. On the contrary, I've heard apple cider vinegar is supposed to reduce hair fall.

Is it growing back finer, sparser and more slowly?

    • I don't know it seems like it's slowly restoring itself?
