I think I did that when I first started, but it's not really as effective if you concentrate on only one area. But, as they say, if it feels good, do it. Some people seem to squeeze a lot, and I never found that felt good. I use my whole hand except the pinkie because my pinkie is kind of stiff. I can't grasp all around the shaft because it doesn't feel precise and doesn't feel pleasurable to me. Plus it's kind of thick, so my hand has to make a C-shape, rather than an "O" shape. My hand is sort of at an odd angle too because I like my thumb completely free to directly stimulate, rather than just hooked around the shaft. If I do it how other guys seem to do it, it takes a lot longer to finish, but sometimes I mix it up anyway.
The fact you're not circumcised may have something to do with it too. I think a lot of cut guys squeeze/rub really hard on their head/shaft because the head is keratinised from constant friction against clothing. Uncut guys can get away with a lot gentler stuff to achieve the same goal.

They say we're meant to evolve out of having baby toes and pinkie fingers eventually. We don't need them now that we've been out of the trees so long. Both digits are starting to shrink among the general population.
We should save evolution some time and just chop them off... or better yet, alter our DNA. Finally, we'll look like the cartoon characters we create (:
