For whatever reason, people who smoke or drink or take drugs feel uncomfortable doing it around people who aren't doing it. I include myself in that because I know how it feels. I wouldn't encourage somebody into doing something if they'd never done it, but my friends and I have all encouraged each other to drink when one of us felt like it and the other didn't.
Seriously? I've had people encourage me to drink or smoke cigarettes, but I've never had anybody try to push weed or any other drugs on me. People offer, but if I say no, they're fine with that. I guess it depends on your group of friends. Maybe people are more cautious here, too.
is it normal for friends to try to get you involved in drugs

Mainly alcohol, I guess. It's no fun getting drunk with someone who is staying sober. The conversation gets odd.
