its normal for family members to want to know about your job, that shows they care and they are interested. it isnt normal, however, for them to walk out when you tell them what it s you're doing. this makes them a bunch of assholes. but maybe you can get them a bit more interested. tell them what youve been doing, then tell them where this could lead to in the future, tell them your hopes for the next year or so, things you would like to achieve. then ask them what they get up to... then turn your back on them and leave the room when they tell you.
