Do you mean tourist sites or places to stay? For tourism there's Stonehenge, Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, the Falkirk wheel, a plethora of football and golf areas, Glamis castle (from Macbeth), skara brae etc.
Try staying in Edinburgh, Aberdeen or possibly Glasgow. I find they are the most pleasant places. Arbroath is good too.
IIN for an American to want to live in the UK rather than the US?
