Is it normal for a woman to eat

Is it normal for a woman to eat her own placenta?
Cape Buffalo's do it and it does sorta look like a pizza.
What if it had sliced Spam chunks and pineapple rings? Should they share it with friends?? Like "Look what I made Gladys, I hope you enjoy it." "Gee Thanks Brittney. You bake the best placenta."

There is no evidence that eating the placenta is beneficial to the mother, and there is actually some evidence that it can be harmful. But yes, some people do it. I believe that the purported benefit is that it helps replenish the mother's nutrient stores after birth. It doesn't work anywhere near as well as taking supplements and eating a balanced diet, and those things won't cause you harm. I think it's just a weird hippie fad, to be honest.

Women are supposed to do it. But society is against it. I personally, wouldn't.

Some people eat their own placentas, but they usually don't eat the whole thing; it's generally just a small bite before throwing it away. I believe it's supposed to be symbolic or something.

Hahaha. Animals do this sometimes. I would suggest, throwing it on a campfire to celebrate the new baby in the family, and the relief of having a happy Mom.

Some animals do it, but then I watch our dogs digging up cat shit in the garden and eating it every day, so I don't see that as much of an argument in favour of the practice.

I can see how there might be evolutionary benefits to Cape Buffalo eating the placenta since it could be that predators would be drawn to a scent which indicates a vulnerable newborn calf is present.

For humans, placenta-eating is just another fringe nutjob craze. I'm sure it appeals to some people mainly because it's contrary to the norm and most people find the idea disgusting. I can also see how some women would take pride in doing it since it's a badge of being a truly caring mother who's willing to do absolutely anything for her child.

The fact is that there's solid medical evidence that a mother eating her placenta has no benefits and can in some circumstances be harmful to her and her child. But if someone has a contrarian mindset, this can lead them to believe the placenta has some woo-woo power that the patriarchy tries to deny to women.
