In all the marriages I've seen that last until old age, they couples have been just like you describe. The couples where they are always doing stuff and going on holidays and to social stuff, well they always seem to end in tears and one or other of them meets a new love during their outings....see, they were obviously not enough for each other in the first place.
IS IT NORMAL FOR A WIFE AND HER HUSBAND TO GO TO THE MOVIES WEEKLY?

Agreed.
Regardless of his/her motivation, it was just what I was thinking.

the problem is that... it's not "going out" that's causing cheating
it's selfishness that does it

Not directly, but I've noticed an obsessive need for "going out" to be symptomatic of deeper troubles.

date nights with your spouse isn't a sign of trouble.
unless you're trying to invent problems where none exist
