Is it normal for a teenage boy to dream about being a nurse practitioner?

I've told my friends about it and they just laugh. They say that it's the gayest thing they've ever heard and called me. I want to be a PMHNP (psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner) because I know what it's like to suffer through OCD, Aspergers, and ADHD. I also know that it makes/made my life miserable. I've been dealing with this stuff my whole life and I don't want anybody to have to suffer the way I do/did

Is It Normal?

  • It sounds like your friends suck. At least you have a goal. What purpose do your "friends" serve??

    • They are the only ones at school who actually talk to me. Everybody else just ignores me or treats me like less of a human.

      • You know what i did was force conversation(it wasn't bad conversation otherwise i'd have given up) with a bunch of kids till i had a large enough circle of friends to not worry about it. Pro tip: Learn when to let false compliments and such slide; you can spend an hour telling them what is the accurate truth but you won't make any friends that way. Also try new and different phrasings of sentences instead of trying to be as accurate or concise as possible. That's all you need to sound more natural. You'll get better at the rest through talking with people. Pretend you don't have Asperger's long enough and you eventually won't.

  • Most boys are assholes, don't listen to them. Just keep doing what you're doing. If you wanna be a nurse practitioner, then be one. My friend is going to be one as well, and I'm sure she'll have guys in her nursing classes. I have some mental health issues as well (OCD, Anxiety, Depression blah blah), though probably not as bad as yours. I know that you'll make peoples' lives better.

  • Your friends are immature. They're just people that you hang out with, so don't bother paying them any mind when it comes to anything of importance.

It's a good thing that you want to do, and it's normal.

  • Your friends are bell ends. Enjoy a career where your gender will mean your services wil always be in demand. Male nursing staff are always welcome on almost any hospital ward.
