Is it normal for a stranger to say hi ya buddy to a female

My female friend was walking her dog.she does not look like a dude at all and this guy whom she claimed was talking to himself and acting wierd said hi ya buddy as he passed her. She was quite upset. Either the guy was high, mentally retarded or blind. I told her I have heard stories on the internet similar to this and reassured her that perhaps he may be a little loose in the screws and refers to everyone as his buddy, dont take it too personally given the character of the individual.

I had a guy call me Bubba once, and I thought it was funny.

I don't think that guy was implying that your friend looks like a man, maybe he just says that to everyone he meets.

Sounds like he was just being friendly.

And people talk to themselves outloud, but that doesnt mean they're automatically crazy.

You act like every woman should be called "m'lady". For one, this guy was on his way probably headed somewhere and your friend was maybe 3% on his mind that day. Two, most people have a general greeting they have for people they meet or see. My go to is either "how's it going?" Or "how are you"? This is such a miniscule issue/situation

I think she was overreacting. I mean really, what's the big deal?

I often say 'man' to both man and woman. "Cheers man!".

Well, this guy just said something, you don't know why and what he mend, but it were no curses or bad words, and you say ' seemed loose mentally, retarded.' Really?

Not sure if its normal but I can't rule it out.it does proably happen. The individual should have used a less gender friendly term like friend, buddy is usually a male genderisim, but as you concluded in your description, the individual seemed rather loose mentally, or wierd in character. Perhaps that's the way he addresses everyone as the above commentor said. I once had a friend who had a son who would greet all woman by saying "Hello Boss". But then again he was mentally handicapped. Tell your friend not too worry too much, based on the way this person was talking to themselves and laughing out loud. This man proably isn't wrapped too tight.
