Is it normal for a straight guy to make gay jokes all the time?

I have this one friend who's homophobic. If you mention anything about gay people he'll go on a rant about how weird they are and how bad it is.

He makes gay jokes. A lot. I have other straight friends who make an occasional sex joke, but they're always about women (there's this other straight friend I have who makes jokes every 5 minutes, but they're almost always about women). His are rarely about women. Most of his sex jokes are about gay sex, and if you make a gay joke to him you can tell it REALLy bothers him.

This doesn't seem like normal behavior for a straight guy to me. Is it?

    He is gay and in denial, leave him alone about it

    It's possible that he's having doubts about his sexuality and is telling jokes to kind of test the water- to see how funny the people around him find gay people to be, to see if he's in an accepting environment. Not to mention, if he's having doubts it might be on his mind a lot, allowing him to easily make connections between random things and homosexuality.

    yeah i would say that is normal. just be lucky that he isnt a gay basher. that used to be a pretty popular past time.

    Doesn't seem like normal behaviour to me, either. I'm guessing he's got some doubts about his sexuality.

      He does seem pretty conflicted, and not just about his sexuality. Any advice for what I can do to help him figure it out?
