I think it's creepy. I don't know of any life insurance policies in my family. I did have a small one at my last job, and listed my dad as the beneficiary.
People who kill their spouses for insurance money are deserving of slow painful deaths. If someone offered me a million dollars to kill my cat I would tell them to fuck off and die! Money isn't everything, and people who think it is are human garbage.
