The part of England where I'm originally from everyone calls everyone "Love" or "Lovie". It transcends age, gender and rank. Unless you're speaking to the Queen, of course. That would just be rude.
It's hilarious to me when someone from out of town comes to my home town and starts getting offended when the shop keeper calls them love. They complain to the manager and the manager says "Hiya love, what seems to be the problem?". And then they ask a police officer for directions on the way home and he says "have a nice day love". Gives me a chuckle
Is it normal for a man to call me mam if I'm not old?
