I can understand your disappointment.
But, this is totally normal and acceptable if he put the number in the first time he met you. Maybe he didn't know how long it would be until he saw you again. Most people use a shorthand like this for someone they've just met. And it tends to just stay in the phone.
If you'd met him more than once, then he shouldn't really need a shorthand to remember who you are. But even so, he travels around a lot so... it's more than likely he doesn't just see you as his French girl.
