Is it normal for a guy not to masturbate?

I'm just posting this out of interest because it is no longer something that applies to me. Throughout my teens I never had an orgasm through masturbation. I would touch myself and try to give myself an orgasm, but was always unsuccessful. Due to this, I would have a wet dream about once a week which was very embarrassing and annoying. This happened from age 15 right through to 20.

At 20 I lost my virginity I would say in fairly normal style - it lasted a few seconds before I came. With time, my girlfriend and my sex life improved to the point that I was lasting several minutes and giving her orgasms also (perhaps half the time we had sex).

Still I did not masturbate, I no longer had wet dreams, I still touched myself sometimes, but never brought myself to orgasm.

One night, just before my 21st birthday I was thinking about a particularly hot sex session with my gf and for the first time in my life, I gave myself an orgasm through masturbation.

I am still with my gf, we have sex about twice a week and I also masturbate about twice a week and have had no difficulty getting myself to cum since.

I suppose this is mostly a question for the guys. Is it normal for a teenage boy not to successfully masturbate?
