Is it normal for a former student to be involved with a teacher?

Okay, so. I'm an 18 year old gal who graduated high school in '09. I've always been pretty different than others my age, and tend to get along with people who are older (for instance, one of my closest friends just turned 27). Through the typical grape-vine way of society, I started hanging out with a guy who has taught at my old high school for about 3 or 4 years. We started talking, and it's pretty mutual that we could potentially really like each other. He's 8 years older than me, which would be the only barrier, that accompanied with the fact that it's typically viewed as pretty unethical to have non-platonic relations with a former student of the school he teaches at. I guess what I'm debating with myself is, would it be wrong to take the relationship any further from just being pals? It's a given that it would be complicated, but neither of us are sure whether or not it would be right.

    Noo age is just a number once your over 18. I mean yeah, it would be a little weird if you were 12 or something but your 18... your classed as an adult now so why should it be a problem? :)

    As long as you weren't his student at the school I don't see a conflict of problems.

    If you are over 18 we cant really say anything. You have a right to do whatever you wish at this point.

    I don't think age is a barrier.As long as you both like each other why not give it a try, you'll never know untill you try.

    Hey... Things would have looked ALOT worse for him if you and him had been doing stuff AT THE SAME time you were in his class AND if he had given you an A+ ;-)

    PS. btw at my hs there were rumors about girls doing stuff with the football coach
