This is a tough subject but I think its normal to think this. The truth is, one that I'm sure you'll already know, being in relationship won't change the fact that other girls will be attractive. Eventually, the whole "If you really love her then you wouldn't think about anyone else" is highly unrealistic. If a girl looks good, she looks good, that won't change whether you're single or not. The difference is knowing how to control those thoughts and keep your attention to who you're with. Personally, I wouldn't go around telling other girls they are attractive and if I had to, certainly not around my girl. I also don't buy the part about him complimenting other girls to make them feel special since he is supposed to make his girlfriend only feel that way once taken, he speaks as if he is single.
I guess to wrap it up, its normal for him to find other girls attractive but if he straight walks up to another girl and says she is cute or something without her asking, especially around you and it bothers you, feel free to let him know.
