I’m turning 19 in August, and this coming school year will be my senior year, as well as my first year in a public school. It has nothing to do with my academics, I’ve always done very well in school and never been held back, it’s a bit of a long story as to how it happened. Is it normal?
Well very long sorry short, I dropped out after 8th grade due to abusive parents. I could have gotten my GED, but a diploma looks better and in high school you get events/dances/friends and such. So I’ve tested out of some credits, done some online school, and now I’m going to public for my last year so I can take AP classes with dual credit, and get to have some high school experiences.
If I didnt drop out at 17 I would have been in highschool until I was 20.
Where I come from this doesn't really happen. But I've heard it's quite common in America.
Sometimes it's better to come to education a bit later - you're more mature and ready to work hard.
Originally from England. In England it is almost unheard of for someone to be left back a year. There would have to be exceptional circumstances, like a serious illness where you were in hospital for the whole year or something. There's no such thing as "failing" a school year. We have exams at 15/16 which you can fail, but if you fail them then that's it. School is over and you're leaving with nothing to show for it. You can retake the exams if you pay the money but you don't get to go back into the normal school system, you'd have to study yourself at home or make an agreement with the school that you sit in on certain lessons, if they choose to allow it. They probably wouldn't allow it though.
Normal. There were plenty of people in my high school that were 19 and 20.
Things are different in Australia. We have 7,8,9,10,11,12 in highschool. and 6,5,4,3, in primaryschool. In highschool the average age for year 9 is 14, but very common for 15. So I can see it wouldn't be to far out there to be 19 an in highschool. We had a few 20 year olds when I was in high
Normal, a brother of mine just started preschool late or something and ended up in high school at 19.
Most of elementary I was in regular school. Then i was in online schooling for a while, then regular school again for 7th and 8th, then I dropped out for a couple years (not because I wanted to, see above), and then I got back into homeschooling to quickly recover credits, and tested out of some credits.
