Is it normal for a 14 year old to. . .

Be randomly philosophical? I need to know if it is normal for me to wonder about the questions there is no answer to at age 14. Some of the questions are like "what was there before the big bang?" & "Why can't the human mind comprehend the concept of nothingness or eternal or there not being a beginning?". Is this normal?

You probably have an iq above average and are more mature than kids your age, but it's really nothing too special. Follow your curiosities but try not to become a smartass.

Sure. I've always had random things that I muse on. One in particular is what part of the brain controls the notion of self.

Say medical science could regenerate any part of your body as a genetic facsimile of your existing cells. If you were given a prosthetic foot with your own DNA, fine, you'd still be you. Same for most body parts.

But what if an entire living copy of you was made. You see through your eyes, he sees through his. He is "another" person who just happens to share your DNA. An identical twin. Say you are then cleaved entirely in two down the middle. Your left half is stitched to his right, and his left to your right. At this point half of your original body is in one person, the other half in another person.

The question is, which of these two people is you? Which one's eyes do you see out of? Which one contains your flow of consciousness? What decides whether you get to be the original person you were or whether your consciousness is transferred to him?

Is it random? Are you seeing through both their eyes? Or neither? Given that medical science may one day make this possible, any theories can one day be proved.

Yeah, it is a bit, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it.

        • Then if you want to speak philosophically, and in reality, the original person no longer exists, and two new people have been created. Each has a portion of the original but they are not entirely correlative.

Intelligent conversations aren't always encouraged at 14. Adults forget that children too have wisdom to share.

    Nurture this curiosity.

There not being a "beginning" assumes that time is linear. Time doesn't have a beginning, nor an end- wrap your brain around that for a while.

For one i don't believe in the Big Bang Theory,i believe God created everything. For all mankind knows God could have made hundreds of worlds before us. He could have made them then ended them. But the Bible doesn't tell us.And eternity IS ALOT to think about. Because eternity in Heaven (or Hell) is much to comprehend.Because since we only have one life we should spend it wisely.(but that doesn't mean you can't have fun) You should also enjoy life! Live it to the fullest.( so don't do any dumb, life threatening things)Hope this helps you out in life dude!

Sure! Speak to teachers about it, or read books. Why not explore your curiosities
And see what famous philosophers before you think?
