Why not? Every 15 year old gets severe crushes on girls and as most are awkward and uncomfortable around them, it's a lot easier to fantasize about someone they don't know than try to imagine some stuck up schoolmate suddenly taking them into their arms and loving them.
Seems the answer to the bullying is to keep his passions to himself; what the assholes don't know......

I think Taylor Swift's songs are catchy and cute and I can see why she's popular. Even I listen to her sometimes.
There's nothing you can really do about the bullying problem other than to not let him start believing bullies are right.
