  • These days the military can pick and choose. They no longer have to take some loser off the street to fill their ranks. For a hard worker with his/her eye on the future, the military is one good way to get a higher education, without going into debt.
As a career, it's a low paying, tedious way to earn a living without much stability beyond the job itself. Ask any married vet who was sent away for years and left a family at home to struggle by.
Think long and hard before making this decision, as you cannot just up and quit if you don't like it.

    • Is that why they started taking high school drop outs? As usual you have no idea what you're talking about.

      • To the best of my knowledge, the military hasn't taken high school drop outs since Vietnam. Where do you get your information, the Tea Party rags?

        • Yeah as my track record proves I'm so right wing. Idiot.

        • They do take a small number of drop outs. Usually, if you do not have a diploma, you need to have a GED and/or enough college credits to compensate but there are exceptions and waivers.

          • That makes more sense than just taking all dropouts. I can't imagine why even the military would take a drop out; I sure wouldn't hire one. Once a quitter, always a quitter, I figure. A GED is not the same as the determination and intestinal fortitude it takes to make it through a difficult situation, and when I hire someone, I expect them to stick it out, even when things get a bit tough.
