Is it normal; americans and cod

I just want to start this story off by saying I am not racist what so ever, some of the most inspirational people in the world to me are American, my favourite films, actors, directors, singers, they are mostly American.
I don't have a problem with them at all BUT as soon as I hear an American on COD I get my defences up and I have no idea why?!
I don't know if it's the type of people I come across on there; the competitive, "we own the world" type that makes me want to sit there and tell them that I've watched Zeitgeist and believe every word.
I don't know if it's the accent, because I've watched SO many American films and shows etc their accent has become somewhat normal but as soon as you hear them compared to English people it just sounds so strange!
I think they come across as pretty fake people, they "love" everybody and plastic surgery is a little too popular, as a young woman I believe in growing old gracefully, it's safe to say I have NO idea what they believe in.
My friends are quite boisterous on there and they're the type of lads who will argue with anyone, I'm the over-sarcastic one (which can get a bit confusing for the Americans as they don't get our sense of humour) but I keep my mouth shut most of the time if things get heated as I genuinely don't like upsetting people but as soon as I hear an American tell me they're gonna "kick my ass", I seriously want to kill them.
Does anyone else do this? It would be lovely to hear if Americans feel it about the Brits? Like I said I have NO problem with Americans what so ever...apart from when I'm on COD.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • No, you're just insane. But I think, I could be slightly in love with you.

  • What's amusing is that so many Americans have nothing but good things to say about British people but you rarely ever see that in reverse. I don't blame that totally on ignorance but instead think it is more of a "culture" thing. I have tons of English friends...some really close and all have said that they were taught negative stereotypes about Americans. British or American...it's all the same. We both have a wide variety of good and bad personalities in our country. The trick is to realize that sometimes our ideals are not justified or warranted. Location does not make a person "good or bad". There are wonderful people everywhere.

  • I'm an American and from what I see video gaming is like an alternate life for many of us americans to be that one futuristic warrior or ancient cowboy. We really overreact on video games and I usually just ignore what most of the other Americans say because all I hear is boasting and swearing. Even though I do that a lot. I don't have anyproblems with British gamers because usually they are really good or the accent I think is awsome.

  • Sorry you feel that way. I will say say though, that the people you meet through online games are not a representative of the population as a whole. In fact, they're likely to be on the "lower" end of the spectrum. Yes, I'm American, and I have played COD. BTW, what's with a young British woman playing COD? :) Unusual.... Anyway, I don't mind the British accent, although I can't always understand it.

    • Like I said it's nothing against Americans lol I genuinely think it's the attitude of the people on it, I haven't come across anyone who's different to be honest.

Some of the British have lovely posh accents that you should be able to understand but then some of them have common accents (like me) and no one can understand a word I say lol!

  • Its anoying when Americans are on COD they think they are the best at everything and just constantly annoy you. I played online on the game Assassins creed brotherhood and this american kid came on at the start saying "Im going to cut you all up im going to slit your throats because im amazing at this game" it was pretty funny because the player done terrible and a the end he was last and was crying.

    • I can't believe I'm about to write this...I agree with you.

I think they're whole "we're better than you" attitude really irritates me

  • In every culture, there are aggressive people, insecure people, clever people, etc. How they express themselves is down to their culture. An American might say something about ass-kicking or whup-ass or whatever. A Brit might say they're going to stripe you or brown you (if you don't know these terms, you're from a better background than I am). Both are massively more aggressive than the American equivalents.

The only reason you're offended by the American aggressiveness is because you understand it. Americans would be as offended by our aggressive behaviour if they understood our slang.

Equally, Brits don't understand other European slang. When a Dane says they are having the hot water, it may sound like they are taking a shower. What they're actually referring to is sex. The Danes even have a word for the way your hair gets messed up after sex.

  • Your basing your opinion of a whole country on what you hear on a video game and women who have plastic surgery? I wouldn't consider it racist, more so close minded. Of all the people I know , I'm only aware of one female that has ever had plastic surgery. So we're not all made of plastic as you apparently think. Also on COD it's a war game your going to run into lots of assholes. A bunch if men trying to sound tough. I know many American men who get annoyed by how other American men act on there. Its a big world and you are going to run into idiots and you views and opinions are going to be based on hearsay. Just think what you know isn't even half of it.

If I based my opinion in what I hear about the Brits it would be they all have bad teeth and drink tea. But thats not what i think about them. I do enjoy their accents. Other than that I would have to say that's the only thing I think about. Just accents. Why don't you inform us on what we should know.

  • Americans are brought up with very little information about the world around us (unless it happened hundreds of years ago).plus the nearest countries are Mexico (which we hear a lot about) and Canada (which we hear almost nothing about), so it's almost like we only have contact with one country at all times.
