I'd say yeah that's normal. It's a matter of psychology, as humans we're attracted to things that are new. Generally speaking, the idea of hooking up with someone is vastly preferable over the idea of seeing them continuously over prolonged periods of time.

however, if they isolate me then give me loads of attention (push pull) i will not lose interest as quickly. is that normal?
