It's great your pet has had a positive influence on you! And I totally understand not wanting it caged. I struggled to see my turtles in their aquarium. I wanted them to have a swimming pool sized home
Re: pet feeling like a baby. I have wondered about this a lot. I think most people have nurturing/parenting traits that come out as adults. And if one doesnt have a child, maybe those traits come out towards pets?
eg. I'm strangely very fond of my cat's water drinking sounds. So peaceful. (which is bizarre because a human chewing with their mouth open is often slappable lol) Probably reminiscent of a baby on a pacifier. Idk
