I've never read the comics, but I remember the film. I really liked it, and thought the concept was genius. A blind hero? Brilliant! And I think the film actually holds up even today. But as I've said, I've never read the comics, so I can't comment further on that. Did the same guy actually write the film script? If he did, maybe that's the problem. If not, then the movie just plain ruined it for you. This happens to me a lot, but not to this extent. If I like a particular show or film and I read the ending or learn something I don't like about the actor in it, then that just changes everything and I can't continue watching it. It's like a sick feeling. But I'd say it's pretty normal. You could delude yourself that the film adaption doesn't exist, and only the comics are canon (which, really, they are).
