I can see that however good your intentions may be, that his real parents might at some point react poorly to this relationship and you could be in for a world of hurt.
You absolutely must put yourself and your safety first in these situations. The boy has parents and no matter how poorly they are doing their job, it is still THEIR job and not yours, to raise their child.
