I don't think age (for adults) has much to do with how successful a relationship is. It has a great deal more about shared interests and compatibility.
If you can find an 18 year old who shares your interests and you hers, then everything should be fine.
But if she wants to party till 3AM every night and drink and do drugs, then sleep the day away, I think a 42 year old man would soon become bored with such a lifestyle, no matter how much fun she was in bed.
Test the waters and see how it goes, just do so slowly, so neither of you gets hurt.
