I wish I could copy/paste my last reply, but, I'd feel bad doing that, so here goes again: It feels good to having someone you can emotionally and affectionately dump on. For the most part, it drives people away when in person because it's all blatantly untrue and has little-to-nothing to do with the person the things are being said about and everything to do with the person who's saying them wanting someone they can open up to.
In short, there's a very, very, very strong chance that he's just wants someone to dump on. Ask yourself this: did he seem interested as if he liked you before he saw what you looked like/had time to get to know you, or after? If before, then he's probably served best by you with a relationship that doesn't have the added pressures of an in-person relationship. In this case, it'd be best to always have a reason not to be able to meet him in person-- not for safety reasons, but because if he's only like that because he's comfortable with you over long-distance, not having that safety net there for him might ruin the relationship.
Is it normal... I haven't met him yet?
