Is it legal to copy someone's tattoo?

I see one I fell in love with but a tattoo artist from Korea made it but I can't go to Korea so I'm going to show a tattoo artist in the US.

Is that legal or is it stealing another artists work? I really love it

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Apparently you can get copyright infringement on tattoos but it would be the tattoo parlor. They will know all abojt it if you call a parlor. But I doubt they will care about it and no one is gonna sue unless youre a celebrity on TV all the time. Even then just dont admit who did the tattoo I dont think ylu can get in trouble.

  • It's perfectly fine. No one is gonna say shit about it.

  • The original artist may not appreciate it, and some tattoo artists will refuse to do copies.
But, you can show an artist the piece and ask them to design something of the same inspiration.

  • If the copyright guys find out they will peel your skin and return it to the artist for destruction

  • Of course not, and the slightest alteration would make copyright invalid in the first place.

    • So if I only change a little its okay or is it frowned upon? Its a small tattoo not detailed

      • It’s not a thing, nobody cares about any of it.

The only thing that would be frowned upon is if you stole an artists personal design and were going around selling said design or something.

But I’ve never heard of someone doing something that stupid because there’s zero money in trying to do so.

  • It's highly illegal and I'll be forced to arrest you if you do this.

    • Yeah I think I will. Thanks

  • I heard there trying to make copyrights on tattoos. Idk if that would extend internationally though.

  • It feels terribly tacky. If you are that into their art, you should let the original artist do their work, or not at all.
