Says who? The child is paid under the table by the parent. It's no different than getting an allowance. As long as the parent or grandparent is the legal guardian they can do as they wish.
The OP needs to find a better place to hide their games or contraband.

But he worked for it himself, so therefore it's his.
Thats not right to have the kid work hard, and then take away the stuff they actually earned.
Why should the kid even work if his stuff is going to be taken away??!?!?

I dont think it matters that he lives with them. At a certain age you gain independence.
