Is it just me or has television or has television gotten more lame?

Between my studying and busting my ass to get my life in order, I look toward watching one show other than those two other shows I am more forced to watch. That show is "Heroes" and although I am not a big fan of the writing, I like the premise of the show as it is the closest thing I could find that matches my book that I am writing, if only a little.

I watch it not for ideas but to see how some ideas work while others don't and I feel that they aren't even trying with this show anymore. They just got done filming and airing an entire season and they went NOWHERE. I have no clue what the hell is the point of this season and as a writer, I feel insulted. What they didn't wasn't writing but more of a "Making a mess with a pen."

As a writer, characters grow and try to achieve something, there has to be a conclusion and a start and this show has neither. I sorta liked the show a long time ago and judging by all of those damn advertisments they used to show, I thought the show was going somewhere and it clearly is not. I am glad my television is broke so I have to expand my mind by doing other activities. (I watch episodes online or at my in-law's house.)

Does anyone else feel this way or am I just getting older? I really would like some feedback or at least some votes on this one.

  • It has really and music and most culture. In fact you have a lot of noticable creativity and unique styles in the other ones next to the 2000s. 50 has its style, 60 has one, 70 had one, 80s had one, 90s had one but 2ooo is just revamped, recycled styles and material from the other generations, and advancements on old products. This generation has nothing to its name. We have simply reached our peek it seems. Kind of sad really. Think about this? An MP3, now think about what came after it? A touch pad, an Itouch, an iphone(smartphone) all things we had but they made improvements on. Writing turns into typing, house phone turns into a cellphone than a touch-phone, computer turns into a touch pad with a detachable keyboard. I guess it works with the countdown though. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. 10 is the end so of course its boring. Maybe the 2010s will have something decent to offer.

  • I'm in your world. Television is rubbish. An addictive concept (not as much as some) that you can overcome. There are other things to do besides television, especially since it has no spiritual significance. I'd listen to the radio, television can ruin your brain.

  • Alot of the good old cartoons (flintstones, scooby doo, Tom and jerry,TMNT, ect.) are on boomerang. Channel 111 if you have cable. I love it <3

  • OMG! Any of the Star Track films specialy that one is fuck up. I like the movie and the first two star tracks that came out on TV but the rest are stupid. The shows today are lame and I agree with you Bud. But some shows I like are 24, Scrubs, Two and a Half Man, Biggest Looser, and Law and Order SVU. The rest are stupid. I started to like Heroes the first two seasons and then it went down hill after the writers strike. I beleave that the writers strike is what cause these shows to be what they are today.

  • I agree, I used to watch a lot of tv back in the 90's and it was all good. I mean I was younger but....it was good tv! There are some good shows out there now but I find that eventually their plots get weak and too far "out there." I don't like Heroes, I think the acting is poor so that's a deal breaker for me right from the start.

    I like shows such as Lost, Dexter, Monk, True Blood because I think the dialogue and acting is excellent. And actually a lot of the USA shows are surprisingly good.

    But yeah, tv is not as good as it used to be, agreed.

    • I hate to sound like a complete dork from this comment but the best written show of all time was...and I am sorry to say this.

      Babylon 5. The show was written by one writer only and each "episode" flowed into the next. There would be several episodes leading up to an explosive episode and there was a season which they were up against an enemy that was way overpowered compared to them.

      • Rescue Rangers was awesome and there needs to be some channel with all the best shows from the 90's like Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Gargoyles, TMNT, Heathcliff...etc.

        I'd be a happy lady. I agree, I want to buy all of these on dvd and just not let my kids watch new tv.

        • You don't have to. I hope I am not breaking protocol but since I do own the dvds (Well, my fiance does) I can legally download each of these.

          To download them, look online for a program called BITCOMET and install it. Then find the torrents needed to download all of those here

          But please don't do it unless you actually own the DVD's as I don't feel like having my ass handed to me over a technicality. I guess this is the part where I say Piracy is wrong as I truly am not a moron and know the laws.

        • Those are good. I kid you not though, I started downloading entire seasons of just a few of those yesterday. In a few days, I should have the entired series of Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin, Duck Tales, Titus (The comedy show,) and 24 for my fiance's dad.

            Fuck Comcast, I'm annoyed because they say I download too much and I just play online and let my neighbors play online as well. This is more due to me not having a TV and I own most of these series anyways.

    • It can't be just because we are getting older and miss our youth either. It's like they don't even try anymore. I remember great cartoons growing up and toys that go with them and now I don't see much of either.

      It just feels that quality has been drained out of everything and we as society pretty much accepted it. I feel bad for our kids who won't know better. It saddens me that my future children won't know cartoons like "Rescue Rangers" or "Duck Tales" as I did growing up. On television, it seems that it is all Japanize animation which doesn't make much sense to watch and even less in writing skill to produce.

      For instance, my fiance loves the show Yugioh for some god awful reason and I tried watching it with her. I honestly can't stand it and as a starting writer, I look at the writing and it goes no where. They describe this "twist" and without any logical thinking they add that "twist" over there. For a story to work there has to be a flow that most shows now days do not follow. Am I wrong on this.
