Is it just me or are 90% of the people on here autistic?

I'm not autistic but I have a degree in psychology and a keen understanding of autism and on here I've noticed that the majority of the users are quite easily on the spectrum. Does anyone else notice this?

Yes they're mostly autistic 25
No they're not 34

Most of my friends in school were autistic. Despite my efforts, I was unable to siphon their autism for my master plan

90% is an exaggeration, but I get what you're saying

The majority of autistic people (speaking from experience as one and as someone who hangs out with a lot of them) are introverts, typically extremely so, so we’re more likely to be doing an independent activity like hanging out online as opposed to spending time with other humans in person. The social battery of autistic people is quite sensitive and drains quickly, being online is less intimidating and pressuring. And, typing can be an easier way for us to communicate, after all many of us are nonverbal IRL.

I’ve noticed the same thing, recently there was post about autism and lying and most of the respondents mentioned that they were autistic themselves. Although I’d guess maybe 40% of our regulars are autistic, 50% if I’m being generous.

      That’s a reasonable estimate. 90% is ridiculous.

Actually no, not even close to that high a figure.

    That’s just silly.

The entirety of internet culture in general seems to be on some spectrum or another.
To be honest, I’ve only personally met (that I know of) maybe 2 autistic people in my entire life. I had no idea it was as common as it is

I can only recall ever meeting one person who was obviously and seriously autistic, although I've known several who were obsessive and socially inept enough that they may well have been diagnosed as being on the spectrum.

You should bear in mind that lots of people these days take pride in wearing a label that identifies which flavour of snow flake they are. And then there are those who are simply selfish, oblivious clots who are totally wrapped up in themselves, and seek to excuse that by claiming to be non-typical.

I have absolutely no issue with folk trial-running different identities, communities, and labels. Exploring your self identity is healthy and gives you the best chance of finding out what you really want in the world.
And what I want for others is for them to find their happiness and be at peace with who they discover themselves to be.

Loneliness is a horrible, horrible, thing.
If a “blue-haired, nose-pierced, rainbow-wearing liberal” wants to identify as a cat today, man tomorrow, and communist the next, and they find community and a sense of peace along the way, who am I to want to prevent that ? They may change their mind, and they may not. They may get it “wrong” or they may get it “right”, that’s just part of life.

I will not sacrifice my humanity over any societal or political opinion.

No, dude, I am not autistic.

The only identity badge I wear with pride is the one that reads "Crotchety Old Know-It-All Asshole".

90% is a bit of a stretch. As someone who has also got ASD. I'd say the percent rate is likely a little lower.

I'd say they're mostly all just socially awkward or have OCPD. I used to think I could be autistic, but then a therapist gave me some tests and confirmed that I wasn't.

If your only tool is a hammer... everything looks like a Nail.

A real problem with psychologist in general is that whatever they specialize in - they see in most everyone in society.

A little quirk does not make someone autistic - even if most autistics have that quirk.

    • No that's not how it works. Also if you look at the replies the majority have said they have autism. What does that mean? I must be correct.

A majority is not 90% and many people on this forum will not respond to your topic.

I'd guess that the number is likely less than 50% and perhaps less than 25%.

I am, but idk about the other ppl here

  • So people were so upset about my previous analysis, so I removed that one.

The reason I said that is because almost everyone I know has Autism in some shape or form.

Another thing is, is when I said being so low on the spectrum, I meant that everyone shows *some* traits of autism, counting even in the past, but some, not enough to be autistic. Does that make sense?

I don't have a degree in psychology, but I'm pretty sure that no qualified psychologist would make a diagnosis based on a few comments on an internet forum.
