Yes, I always say hello and am polite. It's usually the same woman who cuts my hair, and we do a few minutes of small talk at the start, then I'll tell her what I want doing to my hair and then I'll get my book out. Once she's finished I tell her how great my hair looks, thank her, and then give her a $20 tip. So it's not as if I'm cold.
My friend seemed to think that I should be talking to the stylist the whole way through.
It doesn't really matter much what she thinks, but I'm just curious to hear opinions because I would have thought it would be fairly common for someone to take a book in.
I would have no idea what to talk to a stranger about for 3 hours, especially given how awful life was over the last year. I would start reciting the internet to them out of desperation.
She might even be relieved that you don’t talk, she must be a captive audience to so many boring rants about her customers’ families and work dramas.
Is it it normal to talk to your hair stylist?
