What is right and what is normally don't always align. It's human nature to be repulsed by certain things. Luckily compassion is also human nature, but the two things don't exist exclusively from each other.
But at the end of the day it's not the mentally disabled people you should be worried about; it's their white knights who will often go out of their way to accuse you of discrimination. This is why if I encounter a mentally disabled person by themselves I just treat them like anyone else, but if they have an aid or supervisor I stay as far away as possible.
