  • I feel in my case caste isnt an issue, because all thise women got married in other castes. Their families were ok about them marrying in different caste but my wheelchair seemed like a taboo or they dont understand how independent I am in spite of being in a chair. My family is pretty liberal and we accept people from different race and culture with open hearts. Its not that everyone is saying no but the ones that interest me dont have the guts to go against family. I dont wanna marry someone who is willing but i do t conne t with because that wouldnt be fair to her or myself. But the west is very open minded and well educated about spinal cord injury

    • I think you have a very wonderful attitude and so does your family. It's good that they will accept your choice of a spouse as long as she makes you happy, and that should make it easier if you do chose to pursue a relationship with someone from another country, if you see fit.

I'm sorry that you felt unaccepted by the families of women who otherwise accepted you. Indian culture is very different from western culture in this way, as a woman's family can carry much more weight. In many other cultures, women are not afraid to ignore the wishes of their families...but I believe families should only care that the woman is happy. If you are apple to make someone happy, that's all that matters.

Perhaps you should broaden your horizons and seek someone elsewhere. I have no doubt that if you look openly, you will be able to find someone. I'm American, and I must say that if I truly connected with someone, I wouldn't care if they happened to be paraplegic. I think that is a common attitude in many countries, and if your family is accepting, that would make things much easier.

I hope that you find what you are looking for.
