It sounds like you have an idea, buried under a fear of being judged. If your friends are judgemental, the answer is probably that you will be, even if they don't use those words specifically. You have to recognize though that this is mostly just you second guessing yourself or having predictable unsupportive friends. As long as your science is sound it literally doesn't matter what they think and if you do anything meaningful with it women will probably thank you.
