Personally, due to their very difficult personalities/bad habits, I wont be taking care of my parents either when they are elderly. They are just too toxic, and I can't have my potential children grow up around that as I did. The most I'll do is find the best retirement home and pay as much money as possible to insure their safety and happiness; and I'll visit on important holidays and birthdays.
