Is it easy to get in shape?

Idk if its my genetics or maybe I am just kind of tough but I feel that getting in shape is quite easy and I have trouble relating to obese people. I'm not saying this to brag but I can lose 30 pounds in just a few months and put on abit of muscle. It seems to be quite easy. If you eat once a day you will lose the weight and then on top of that consistency is key for getting fit. I will run 7 days a week and lift weights 6 days a week and the weight falls off and I tighten up. I dont think it is my genetics because my whole family is fat. I think maybe I'm just kind of disciplined naturally?

I lost 30 pounds in two months as well. I wasn't eating that well before that, though, so eh.
I used an app called MyFitnessPal to track calories and generally eat the amount of calories I should minus some.

The running 7 days a week and lifting weights 6 days is definitely what does it for you. You're lucky you can stand it; many can't.

The consistency part is hard as well. It may be easy for you, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone else. Just because you have success with something doesn't mean everyone else does, or that everyone else is lazy and you're better than them.

This is true to a certain extent, but it does gradually get harder and harder with age.

I've always been fairly active and slim but as I've gotten older I've had to work much harder for it. When I was young I could drop a dress size very easily without worrying too much, and progressed quickly with any fitness regime. These days I have to be very strict and careful with myself or I end up with the dreaded middle-aged spread, and I find it painfully slow to drop even a small amount of the weight

    • I have noticed this as well. When I was younger I could just workout and eat whatever I wanted. Now that I'm older I have to workout and watch how much I eat

I think the best advice I've ever heard for anyone who wants to lose weight is "eat less". After all, what are you trying to get rid of? Fat. Where does fat come from? The food you eat.

Unlike many people, I have lost weight over the lockdown, despite having a relatively sedentary lifestyle. I think that it's simply because I have been eating less; in fact, I've been exercising less as well, but that hasn't stopped me from losing weight. I feel like most people get too caught up on the "exercise" part, and don't just stop to think, "Maybe there's a way to do this more efficiently." If you limit the you take in, you limit the number of calories you have to burn to start losing weight.

As people age its common for their metabolism to change or for certain things to not work as well as they used to. Certain long term medical conditions also affect things.

I don't find it nearly as easy to stay in shape or loose weight as I did when I was in my 20's and early 30's.

Also, recovery and rehabilitation of minor injuries take a lot longer (I'm currently working with a L shoulder issue and have been in physical therapy for over 2 months - and expect another 2-3 months to get back to where it should be). When I was in my 20's - that would have been no more than a month or so to recover.

However, with all that being said. I'm 80 lb lighter than I was 12 years ago.

I cant lose weight worth a shit. I wrestled in school, been doing MMA/Jodo/Jujitsu for the past 4 years & lift weights. I'm strong, flexible & have good cardio but I'm still over weight at 6ft3 290lb. Thankfully I never cared about looking good, just being healthy & physically competent.

    • Consistency is the key man. Im telling you. Not every workout has to be a gut buster but you need to be doing something everyday!

"you need to be doing something everyday!"

I am. Lift weights one day, Jodo the next. Wrestle one day, Jujitsu the next. MMA one day, Full contact sparing the next.
I think there's something physically wrong with me as to where I can't lose weight unless I starve myself for weeks (& even then i'll only lose about 5/7lb's) But at lest the good side to it is I lose muscle as slowly as I do fat so that's a plus.

Maybe you have a hormonal issue, you should get that checked unless you're just on a horrible diet.

Will ruptured testicles do that? I do have a thyroid problem but I doubt that would affect my weight loss that much.

Women in general do have a harder time losing weight than men and this is why many struggle and more diets and excercise plans/equipment are marketed towards them. Their bodies are genetically predisposed to storing more fat and they don't have the testosterone levels men do, thus making muscle building more dificult in turn.

Some people are overweight due to health conditions like thyroid dysfunction, injuries, depression, eating disorders etc amoung other things.

I've been intermittently fasting and I have maintained my current weight. If I ate less crap I would most likely lose weight.
