Is it common to drive for 20+ years and never be involved in an accident?

Almost everyone I know has been in some kind of automobile accident, be it major or minor. I’m almost 35 years old and I’ve been driving since I was 14 (sneaking out of the house with my dad’s keys and stealing the car at night), and yet I’ve never been in any kind of collision. I sometimes get complaints from passengers about carelessness when I drive, which leads me to believe I’m at risk of an accident, yet I’ve managed to avoid it despite spending a lot of time on the road.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Luck, and perhaps skill, but that cannot be accurately determined by the fact that you've not been in an accident.

You're just lucky is all. Be happy you haven't.

Sure it is It just means you are a carefuL driver. There is no badge of honour for not having an accident. Actually the reverse is true.

I've been driving for 50 years and apart from scrapes in supermarket carparks have never had a real accident either, although a did hit a dog who ran in front of my car and hit a few kangaroos at night in the outback.

What's more I've only ever had two speeding offences and I got off one of them because I had a good reason.

Just lucky, I guess and you are too. You have a lot of driving years ahead of you (wish I did!) so it would be a good idea to drive more carefully.

Congratulations, you seem to be a very good driver! Of course it's not unheard of that a good driver get into an accident, because of other people's bad driving.
