The age gap doesn't matter in my personal opinion. I think 2-3 years is what's considered the "norm." However, my brother and I are 8 years apart and we have a great relationship. It was more like having an extra guardian in the house. Fighting was kept to a minimum because we weren't "equals" so to speak. But, if you're talking about an appropriate age gap for them to play together and spend time together, 2 years makes more sense. It also depends on the parents, in my brother's case, he's currently 31 and getting married. He has an infant daughter. He wants his kids 2 years apart each so he's not raising kids into his 60s lol.
Is it better for children to be close in age or further away in age?
