I haven’t gone to school in over 3 years, don’t want to redo all of it. Going to get my ged but I feel like people will look down apon it

Don't worry about other people. Your GED is probably easier at this point, then you can go to community college and transfer to a university. People are more concerned with your college diploma than High School. Of course a high school diploma is better, but I've worked in university offices of admission and they love an underdog story. (GED, As in community college, compelling essay? 9/10 you're in). I can't speak for trade school or jobs, but I think it'd be similar.

About 45 years ago, I decided high school was a crock of shit and I quit as soon as I could. A few years later, I got my GED because I wanted to go in to the military. I never regretted either of those things, and I went on to get a bachelor's degree as a mature student.

I'm wondering who precisely it is that you suspect would look down on you for having a GED instead of a diploma. I suppose some employers might hesitate to hire a 19 year-old who dropped out of high school, but if you can show that you haven't completely wasted your time since you left school and you've been actively developing your skills and knowledge in the real world, then any sensible prospective employer would find that more important than a diploma proving that your high boredom threshold and tolerance of BS allowed you to get through high school.

Also, bear in mind that as the years pass, whether or not you finished high school matters less and less. As you get older, what matters most is how you deal with life and real-world work situations, not whether you have a high school diploma or a GED.

It depends. If you plan on going further in education and getting a higher degree, then just get the GED and go to uni/college.

On the other hand, if you just want to work, a diploma is definitely more helpful to have and I would suggest taking the time to start things over.

I've also heard that GED programs are nightmares, but don't take my word on it.

Some people will say that it's not a big deal, but I personally think a diploma is better. I also think that if you manage to get a bachelor's degree, or even an associate's degree you will end up looking better.
