its weird but something like this happened to me like 2 years ago... I had these 5 special rocks that I had with me... I knew there was 5 because I kept counting them over and over again.. I put them down somewhere and came back later.. to my astonishment I found only 4 rocks... I get so mad and pissed because I hardly ever lose stuff... after a couple of days went by, the rock reappeared seemingly all by itself... that was very weird...
can't explain it, but maybe something like that happened to your friend
