It's not about the act it's about the morality of it. If you don't morally believe it's wrong then it will never click with you that it's wrong.
If you're with someone generally unless you ask or specify that you want to keep it open it's a given that it'll be exclusive. It doesn't have to be exclusive mind you but it's cheating from a moral standpoint if the other party thinks it is going to be exclusive.
