Let's say you're Sam and your best friend is Frodo. You'd do anything for him, not just because you're his gardener, but because you've grown up together. You don't want to leave the Shire, but you wouldn't send your friend halfway across the world with a great burden on his shoulders without you by his side. You'd face any enemy, no matter how terrible. Traverse any landscape, no matter how perilous. You would carry him up the cliffs of Mt. Doom, without food or water, facing almost certain death, out of sheer love that can only be shared between two warriors.
