Is furry fandom normal?

Most furs want to be an anthropomorphic animal. Like a dog, fox, wolf, cat, husky.. etc. For me I feel a connection with this picture:
http://tinyurl.com/alexfoxfurry
Like, I would want to BE HIM. And awkwardly that furry looks like me.. with the hair, pants, eyes, pondering look and bracelet.. (And I mean look at my username)
---------------
Furry is a title for people who are..

Interest in anthropomorphic animals. People who long for a simpler life free from the problems of human society(seriously...) People who have a hard time believing most people are actually human. Many furries have a hard time relating to the inhumane things most humans do, and long for a simpler life free of the greedy, selfish, thoughtless, uncaring, unthinking, and unintelligent individuals that make up the majority of the human race. These furries have a hard time seeing themselves as part of a race of people whose actions are completely nonsensical, and try to distance themselves from it. Furries, as a group, tend to be sensitive, emotional individuals, who are very accepting of others, and don't like to see people hurt. This isn't to say this is a requirement for being furry, but it does describe a significantly greater portion of furries than of the general population.

There are a lot more furries than you know probably. I'm a member of several huge furry websites.

    Completely normal.

I'll say Yes it is normal. I however think the real question being asked here is; Is it okay?

    That depends really.
I am not giving definites because there are times when I still question it. I have been for 7 years now.

What you need to do is ask yourself some questions.
What do you like about the furry fandom?
What does it mean to you?
What do I want to do as a furry?
Do I want a furry suit (or fursuit)?
    Why?
What behaviours do I wish to engage in in a furry suit?

If you are like me it will turn up more questions. I will say this. I was different. I have known my whole life that somehow I was different. I have lived with my differences for a very long time. Once I found the furry fandom, I finally thought; "Wow! These are my kind of people!" If that thought crosses your mind, you have found something you might grow to really like. Embrace it and be cautious but not ovely afraid.

Balance is very important too. I am a professional. I would never reveal at work that I like wearing a furry suit. I would be embarrassed if anyone outside my friend knew about it. The same goes with my church. Don't spill your guts is basically what I mean. It is okay to have some parts of you that are private.

    The next thing to remember is;
If you do not wish to be thought of as immoral, do not act imorally.
If you do not wish to be thought of as abnormal, act normally.

A great deal of people I have met while in my furry suit are usually curious, want to check you out. They are cautious if they have children but overall, they are friendly. Your conduct will dictate the interactions you have with others.

    I hope this is help.

Crap! I forgot to say that there are about 750,000 furs worldwide who know they are and they tell others. That number has been rising rapidly because of online games like World of Warcraft's new worgen (which counts as an ugly furry), Earth Eternal (all characters are anthropomorphic, and it's fun no matter your age), Second Life and much more games.

No it's not normal (in terms of the worldwide population). Normal is defined by how common something is in the worldwide population, if the value is higher than those who do not share this common value, then it is normal.
Whether it is bad or not is a different question. Furthermore, "therian" is extremely rare, especially if you invalidate members of the were fandom and otherkin in general. To be therian and furry is even more rare. At a guess there are only at most 2 million persons who would call themselves "furries", it's an internet subculture and an Western one at that - and "furry" is based off of English lexicon. Drawing/appreciating/roleplaying (as) any form of animal art, anthropomorphic (or from religion, theomorphic) or not is a perfectly normal thing and has occurred since the cave era, there's even a genre of art that orients this and this is known as "fable" (Google it). Furry is just nerd culture that was invented by a bunch of like-minded Unix hackers in the late 70s and became an established term for funny/cartoon/anthropomorphic animals in the sci-fi and fantasy fandoms. It has also been endorsed by zoophiliacs, and most specifically, autozoophiliacs / zoophile voyeurists, this has encouraged what furries call "yiff", which has widely ruined the purity behind the concept of what some dub as a "fandom" for many. "Anthro" is also an erroneous word to apply to meaning a "furry character" as in Greek-English "anthro" means, simply, "human". Similarly, "feral" is it tends to refer to any animal character on its natural count of legs, yet plenty animals stand on two legs (are bipedal) and often times "feral" will be used to refer to anthropomorphic characters that just happen not to be that anthropomorphic in terms of carriage, and it's often erroneously used to refer to domestic animals when (by English) "feral" means undomesticated animals/humans/etc. Furry is not a fandom, it is a community, I may add, it never was a fandom, a fandom requires a product, yet the idea behind the furry community is a set of concepts relating to animal characters, prominently "furred", "mammalian" ones, but avians/reptiles and some fictional animals seem to be included.

I am a furry and I see absolutely no problem in being one. I've heard other people talk about how it is such a horribly immoral blah blah blah, but then I want to ask them something: How can you condemn me for my own personal interests (which, by the way, affect noone but myself) when you yourself do all of these things that even you consider horrible? I fit your description of furries to the T, and frankly, I'm proud of it, and there's is no reason why you shouldn't be, either :)
Oh, and great pic, btw! ^_^

Furries are people with drastically low self esteem looking for something to assimilate to in order to not just kill themselves, which would be better.
