Is dressing up as a nazi for halloween normal now?

Do people dress up as nazis for halloween? I honestly have no idea since I've never been to a halloween party before cos I have no life, lol. I've heard online of some people doing it before trying to be edgy, but has it gotten to the point where it's normal now? I honestly don't think I'd care if I saw someone dressed like that. When I think of nazis now, the first thought that comes to mind is that they're the typical bad guys in movies and video games. They're not really taboo to me anymore.

I would find it offensive to be honest. I think that it depends on your background. If you are a white person of the middle class it would certainly not matter to you but as a person of african origin who would surely have been erased from the map if Hitler had succeeded I would find it very offensive. The same applies for those who dress in KKK hood or think that being black can be an halloween disguise.

But then I dont live in a country where we celebrate this.

    • What? Jewish people were targets more than anything else

It's called solidarity. It's not because it was primarily targeted at jews that I should not be offended.

Yeah, but then you are not me and we certainly do not share the same values and the same level of conciousness when it comes to race and class division.

        • Yep, I can respect that. However, do you think that people should be banned from wearing offensive costumes?

Banning will not change people. Education is what bring long term changes. We should teach children what has been done in the past. That Christopher Columbus is not a hero, that slavery is not just part of history but its effect is still visible. That the economic status of minorities has nothing to do with them being less clever or lazier.

We should teach our children better than we were.

  • I think it would be strange, since most people probably wouldn't have the balls to dress as a Nazi.

I don't find any costume offensive: black face, Indian headdress, Nazi, ect.

Simply dressing as a Nazi doesn't support what they did anymore than dressing as Jason supports brutal knife murders.

Well, I get your logic. However, with Nazis being historical and Jason fictional, it's a rather fallacious statement, isn't it?

      • I considered that, but both are ridiculous. Crazy, brainwashed people followed the Nazis, and similar kinds of people take elements of fiction and apply them to real life.

Take the Slenderman stabbings, for instance.

In the 90's, really? Did it cause any bit of an uproar?

Nope, it wasn't a big deal. I even entered the costume contest, and some people booed me, but I didn't really care, because I was just doing it to do it. I had a friend with me who dressed as the Grimm Reaper. I will say that my costume was kinda make shift, because hey I'm not made of money. The guy who owned the club was also the club DJ, and owner of this place called the Record Rack in Houston, and I was glad to get booed, because Bruce, the gay DJ, then said that I had more guts than the people who were booing me so I it's a great memory for me. Also I enjoyed walking around the Montrose area/Lower Westheimer on a cold night dressed as an SS officer, and polity tipping my hat to random drag queens as we passed each other.

I think people are way too easily offended these days.

I only wish that I had also dressed up the A Clockwork Orange at some point, but I would have to have three friends to be my droogs.

Its a matter of relativity, you can't say "People are too easily offended these days" just because your society doesnt find it as offensive. Nazis killed millions of Jews. You should try wearing a KKK costume.. and then say "People are too sensitive"

It's just fine, but add a bit of edge and do it in black face.
