I would have a zero tolerance approach to cheating. No excuses. If you choose to go out and get drunk and you are fully aware you might be so drunk you'd sleep with someone else, you shouldn't be going out and getting drunk somewhere where that might happen. Maybe it is a valid excuse, but it wouldn't stop me from breaking it off instantly from that person. I've never had to face that situation though.
