If there had been prior relationship problems, plus they were exceptionally drunk (not thinking clearly), and their regret was sincere; then I might consider it a valid excuse. It would also depend on how much time and emotional value has been invested into a relationship. Sometimes, it's better to cut your losses and, other times, it's better to stay and work it out.
But, in saying that it can be a valid excuse, under certain circumstances, doesn't mean that the bad deed is automatically forgiven and everything is cool, because it--sure as fuck--would not be!
