Everybody's a little afraid of the dark - more specifically, what could be in the dark.
But how normal it is all depends on the extent and the context.
For example, when walking at night along a quiet, empty road, shrouded in darkness, it's understandable to be unnerved by the lack of light.
However, lying safely tucked up in your bed at night, but being too terrified to turn out the light, isn't so understandable.
A phobia of the dark is by definition irrational. It's NOT normal, though as phobias go not uncommon. Having to run out of the room the moment the light is out is indicative of a phobia, and again that's not particularly normal.
Depending on how adversely this affects your life, you may want to think about trying to overcome your fear. Force yourself to sit in a dark room for a while until your nerves settle. Be brave.
Is being afraid of the dark ok?
