Is anyone sick of people using acronyms for everyday speech?

I am not just refering to this site or other forum sites but pretty much everywhere, including every day writings as well as college writing. Is anyone else absolutely sick of all the shorthanded writing like LOL, or OMG as much as I am? Is it wrong to complain when morons use this form of writing? Lastly, is it wrong to not take these idiots seriously when they write here asking for help?

I am a twenty-nine year old male who decided that working in a factory isn't my life's dream so I decided to go back to school to improve my skills. However, in my advance writing class, I am always seeming to correct this short handed speech and I am absolutely sick of seeing it. Is it so hard to write out the words in everyday writing instead of breaking it down to a few letters?

Acronyms like LOL, OMG and the like, what the hell do those even mean? Don't answer, after asking I found out. However, writing "laugh out loud" in writing doesn't make much sence and it just makes you look stupid. It is very hard to take you serious when it looks like your an uneducated, imbesol. By seeing these in your writing, its hard to offer any advice at all.

Well, does anyone agree with me or am I wrong? Please, in any responce back, leave the dumb acronyms out as I will not even pay attention to your comments.

    They are more often used to convey a tone, rather than what they actually mean. We use so much written communication these days and your tone is often lost in translation. Including things like "lol" let the reader know that you mean what you're saying in a lighthearted way. Granted, these things should absolutely not be included in more formal writing.

    I am beyond sick of "lol". Totally overused acronym.

    Just can't help it, grates on my nerves. Been seeing it used since 1996. Enough already! Some people use it at the end of every other sentence.

    I can understand why OMFG or WTF is used. Some corporations intercept profanity used in email communication.

    That's how I found this website. I wondered if anyone else was sick of the use of "lol".

    I got used to writting that way when I was in customer service and you had to log in the computer while you were talking to them. I couldn't keep up if I didn't. I think now, the only one I use now is lol. It's Just to let the other person that I'm texting to that what I just typed wasn't mean.

    You know what is REALLY annoying? when people say lol or brb when they are actually speaking out loud. I mean, it's an extra millisecond in your time to talk! Deal with it!

    It's addictive. I do it and I am certainly not a moron. Nice spelling of 'imbesol', you cretin.

    Its a form of art anyway. Recently, a meme has spread around me where 'cba' is actually shortened to 'ceebs', when spoken out loud.

    I completely agree with you. Speech is speech and typing is typing. It gets extremely annoying after a while....

    of course it doesn't belong in that context you're referring to, and i'm really surprised to hear that people are using it in that way. but otherwise (i.e. on the internet) it's a good system that makes perfect sense. i might put 'imo' in a sentence indicate that what i am saying is 'in my opinion'. meaning that i'm acknowledging the subjectivity of my viewpoint rather than making a bold confrontational statement. in a face to face conversation someone may or may not be able to pick that up without it being said, but generally not on the internet.
    you might say 'why not type in my opinion?' but that would be pointless and inefficient, particularly as it's one of a clutch of regularly used stock phrases used as tools in this way, and no more information is contained in the 13 character version than the 3 character version.

    personally i think there's a kind of beauty to the way that that much information is condensed down to 3 phonetic characters.

    i agree with the post above.

    anyways, we only live once and time goes fast so why not abbrieveate things? its not that big of a deal in a non formal setting.

    if your writing your resume or college acceptance letter then obviously refreign from LOL.

    there is a time and place for everything right?
