Where I'm from, the UK, all 'servers' (we call them bar staff) make at least minimum wage, that's £6.08 (US $9.55) for 21 and over, between 18 and 21 they get at least £4.98 (US $7.82). Of course they get a share of the tips on top of that.
Why should I tip? I don't tip the bus driver, I don't tip the bin men, I don't tip the postmen, I don't tip doctors or nurses - do you? So why should I tip someone who's getting paid to serve me? You're right, it's a job - not a charity.
Is a dollar per each 5-8 dollar drink a good tip? (Alcohol)

.......punkass. You should. It's a job, not a hobby. Most servers make 2.13 an hour.
